Abrasive Blasting Cleaning Equipment
Friday, June 11th, 2010Abrasive blasting is the process and the industrial technique with many uses. It works very simply.
“The blasting equipment forcibly propells a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface, shape a surface, or remove surface contaminants.”
Historically the most used material used in abrasive blasting is sand, but with the technological progress, sand has been substituted by silica particles. In industries that are concerned with ecological protection organic material, typically crushed nut shells or fruit kernels are utilized.
Abrasive blasting cleaning equipment is the industrial equipment specialized in cleaning any item using the abrasive blasting technique.
The principle of abrasive blasting is very elementary. Compressed air propels abrasive particles at high velocities to impact and clean a substrate.
3 main elements are found in most abrasive blasting processes:
- 1.- the equipment.
- 2.- the abrasive.
- 3.- the personnel.
Careful focus on these 3 basic elements is the key to the success or failure of the entire cleaning operation.
Concerning equipment, Air compressor, is the main piece of the abrasive blasting cleaning equipment. Besides it is also the element with the higher cost. Therefore selected blasting material, maintenance of used air volume and pressure are critical points.
Abrasive Blast Machine
Air compressor is the machine that compress the air used to propel the abrasive material but the abrasive blast machine mixes this compressed air with the blasting material and regulates the output pressure. For a proper functioning, the air pressure inside the blast machine must be equal to the air pressure flowing through the external piping. With an adequate use you can obtain the most benefits of an abrasive blasting cleaning equipment.
